Workshop Description
In this workshop, participants will get to create and publish their own Roblox game to the Roblox website for the world to play. Students will be building an Obby (Roblox lingo for Obstacle course) using the amazing Roblox Studio platform. Students will learn the basics of creating games in a 3D environment. They will also learn to write their own code in the programming language Lua to suit their game.
Teaching Platform
Roblox Studio is a platform used by developers all over the world to create the amazing experiences seen today on Roblox. The platform will allow students to focus on the “Game Design” aspect of game development and they can focus on implementing the awesome ideas from their minds. In addition, the Lua programming language is an easy-to-read language that allows developers to program unique features into their game using Roblox’s built in functions. Each Student will get to create their own Roblox account if they do not already own one (very low odds of that) that they will be able to save their work on.
What Coding Concepts and Languages Will Students Learn?
Participants will learn about the fundamentals of 3D game development, and they will get to learn the basics of programming in general. Some of the concepts the students may learn include:
Basics of programming (variables, if statements, functions, loops)
Basics of 3D modeling
A high level understanding of basic physics concepts (Velocity, Force, Angular Velocity etc…)
A high level understanding of what a Game Engine is
Familiarity with the Roblox Studio game engine
and More!
What Skill Level Is Appropriate for our Roblox Workshop?
Coding experience isn’t necessary. Those with some level of experience with Roblox Studio or other game engines are welcome to learn advanced Lua concepts and to obtain a deeper familiarity of Roblox Studio.
